HELPING HAIRDRESSERS DAY

NOW into it’s fourth year, national Helping Hairdressers Day is on June 30 organised by the Hairdressers’ Charity.

At Central Hairdressing Academy and Joshua Galvin Academy we recognise the huge value of the work undertaken by the Hairdressers’ Charity and urge all hair salons to do what they can to fund raise on this special day.

We are proud to announce the launch of The 2017 Central Hairdressing/Joshua Galvin Photographic Competition

The entry fee is £2.00 (all proceeds are donated to Hair and Beauty Benevolent). Closing date for entries is 9th June 2017 and the final will be held at The Bethnal Green Town Hall on 17th September 2017.

Central Learner win Apprentice of the Year 2016!

We are delighted to announce that that one of our Business Training learners, Kerenza Rouse, has won the Apprentice of the Year Award at the 2016 Essex Business Awards held on 30 September.

Our congratulations go to Kerenza and also to our own Emma, who has done such a brilliant job where Kerenza works, A. J. Chambers Recruitment Limited.

Going Places!

It's great that so many of our learners keep in touch after they've completed their courses, and we were delighted to read this lovely thank you message from Marlee Madeleine who has just started work at the Braid Bar in Selfridges:

"Had my first day at my new job in Selfridges at the Braid Bar today! Amazing! Wanted to let you know that us girls are going places thanks to your teaching skills and we appreciate it!"





Changes to the National Minimum Wage

From 1st October 2016:

The adult rate will increase by 25 pence to £6.95 per hour.

The rate for 18 to 20 year olds will increase by 25 pence to £5.55 per hour.

The rate for 16 to 17 year olds will increase by 13 pence to £4.00 per hour.

The apprenticeship wage (Oct 2016)is £3.40 per hour rising to £3.50 per hour in April 2017

The accommodation offset increases from the current £5.35 to £6.00

Ivana Fricova and Leanne Cooper have certainly added more than a touch of seasonal sparkle to our academies!
Speaking of the Joshua Galvin Academy in London, Ivana said that she had never encountered such kind, supportive people who had helped not only with her hair skills, but also her English and communication skills. Ivana summed up her training experience at the academy as 'the best ever'.

Leanne Cooper, voted Central Hairdressing Academy's Learner of the Year, is full of praise for the Southend Academy. Speaking of her battle to overcome a lack of self confidence and shyness, Leanne said that she felt so proud of what she had achieved and could not have done any of it without the help of the Central staff.
